This machine is designed for pulsating flash resistance butt seam
welding of steel blooms with cross-sections up to 170x170 mm, up to 12
m long, of various chemical compositions, heated to 1100 °C – 1200 °C. The
machine is installed before the first roll mill stand, and by welding
the blooms intermittently fed to the roll mill it allows a continuous
rolling process to be used. The main advantages of the process are:
increased product yield; improved temperature conditions of the rolling
which leads to higher quality of the metal; longer service life of roll
fittings and roll mill stand; no necessity to cut the workpiece ends
with shears; absence of short workpieces. The machine consists of a welding unit mounted on a movable platform, an electric equipment cabinet, a hydraulic unit and hydroblock, a deseamer, and gaging and pressure rolls. Due to the machine's design all the processes, including workpiece gripping, centering, welding and deseaming are performed during the movement of the machine along the guideways with the blooms being welded. After the jointing is completed the machine returns to the initial position, grips the next bloom and repeats the whole cycle.
The machine's control system is based on an industrial computer. It
allows the following: to set and monitor the process parameters that
determine the quality of the welded seam; to monitor the state of the
operating mechanisms of the machine; to monitor the state of the
machine's electrics; to receive in real time the information about the
welding process workflow reproducibility; to collect and store the
welding process data for each welded joint and if necessary to output a
log for each joint; to perform self-control and self-diagnostics.
